NSAA MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

In order to be eligible for membership an applicant must:

  • Be over 18 years of age and of good moral character.

  • Be a Canadian citizen or a Landed Immigrant

  • Be a qualified graduate from a recognized full-time program of at least 3 years (totaling 1900 minimum classroom and clinical hours in the study of Acupuncture or Traditional Chinese Medicine).

  • In addition to this, the graduate must pass one of the following exams: NCCAOM (USA); the Pan-Canadian Exam (both written and case study components) recognized by the Canadian Mutual Recognition Agreement Standards.

  • Have a certificate of conduct and consent for criminal records and vulnerability sector check at the applicant’s expense (Click here for RCMP Website)

Once the application is filled out, please send it to ns.associationofacupuncturists@gmail.com along with the following required documents:

1. Government issued photo ID

2. Diploma

3. Transcript of Acupuncture/ Traditional Chinese Medicine Education

4. Non-refundable application fee of $ 100.00 made payable to NSAA

5. Pan-Canadian or NCCAOM Exam Certificate

6. Membership in any other Provincial or State Acupuncture/TCM Organization

7. Criminal Record Check at your own expense: https://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/criminal-record-checks

8. TWO character reference letters written by non-family members

Upon acceptance:

1. You will receive a copy of the Constitution & By-Laws by email to read. A confirmation email must be sent confirming the Constitution & By-Laws have been read and are understood.

2. Annual Dues will be payable upon acceptance and thereafter each year on March 31. Currently, dues are $250.00.

3. Proof of liability insurance is due upon acceptance and therefore each year on March 31.

4. You will be given a password to the Members section on the NSAA website. It includes 3 training videos that must be completed with their respective tests (at no cost to you, and these hours will be counted towards your CEUs) within the first 3 months of your acceptance. These training videos are: Sexual Abuse and Misconduct, Jurisprudence and Ethics, and Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Safety. They need to be completed before you can receive your regulation (membership) number.

5. When you have indicated that you have read the Constitution & By-Laws, and dues and proof of insurance are received, you will be given a Member Number and a Certificate of Membership. A list of other members can be found at acupuncturens.com. Your name, member number, work phone number and primary work location(s) will be placed on the website and sent to our list of insurance companies. Some insurance companies, like Medavie Blue Cross, will need you to contact them personally.
